From 2013-2017, Paul worked as a self-employed innovation consultant supporting HEIs around the globe to become more entrepreneurial: advising on 

curricula and teaching, training leaders to be more entrepreneurial and developing entrepreneurial organisational cultures. Participants at his workshops & presentations, on the theme of the entrepreneurial university, came from 420 HEIs in 59 countries.

Paul’s expertise is founded in a highly successful career in Higher Education spanning 28 years from 1995-2013, including 10 years working at executive level. He held senior posts (e.g. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Executive Dean with responsibility for a business school and Professor of Entrepreneurial Leadership) and worked in many academic disciplines (e.g. business, design, entrepreneurship, health, IT & management).

Paul is an alumnus of the 2010/11 inaugural Entrepreneurial University Leaders Programme (EULP), which was certificated by the Saïd Business School at University of Oxford. Subsequently, he held the role of EULP lead tutor/coach, ran leadership workshops and acted as the co-director for the programme. This experience underpins Paul’s deep understanding of the theory and practice of entrepreneurial leadership.

Paul was the Director of two national projects in England in 2012 and 2015 (funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England HEFCE) which reviewed the processes by which all English universities develop their course portfolios in a financially sustainable manner.  The Innovation in the Market Assurance of Programmes (i-MAP) projects led to two influential HE sector reports.

Paul is an expert advisor for HEInnovate, the online self-assessment tool for HEIs.  The tool has been developed with the support of the OCED and the European Commission. Paul is a member of the HEInnovate Expert Group, advising on the content and use of the tool.  He has led HEInnovate workshops with universities in England & Spain, and led national-level events in Scotland and in Wales.
